There have been reports through the media of a Dengue Fever outbreak in Cuba. The outbreak is centred in the Villa Clara province which is in the centre of the island. Almost 1000 cases have been officially reported as well as a similar amout of suspected cases.

Dengue Fever is a viral illness found in tropical and sub-tropical regions of the world. It is spread by mosquitos which bite mainly during the day. There is currently no vaccination for Dengue Fever and treatment is mainly supportive only.
Avoiding Dengue Fever
Travellers to Cuba are advised to take mosquito bite avoidance measures, especially during the daytime. Use insect repellent such as DEET 50%, wear long sleeve shirts and trousers and sleep under a bed net.
